About Us
Hidden Petroleum is a Portland State
University class project designed to spread awareness about the hidden
problems associated with oil use. Created by a small but dedicated group of
students, our website, Hidden Petroleum, in conjunction with our class blog,
The Hidden Cost of Oil, is showing that a small group of highly
motivated people can make an impact on the way in which people behave as
well as their understanding of the world around them. Oil is a finite resource and is being depleted at a rapid rate, as mankind’s consumption has continued to increase. As a result, wars have been waged, our national sovereignty has been threatened, our environment has been damaged, our health has been adversely impacted, and the future of the human race as we know it is in peril. The Portland State University EcoPol Project looks at the intersection between ecological and economical topics with the goal of changing reader’s thoughts, behaviors and actions. Four times a year a separate website is developed and launched in support of a particular topic, and the main goal is this - how can we encourage people to take action to make policy change which improves sustainability? The blog continuously addresses whichever topic is being developed and is a complimentary companion to each specific website. |
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THIS SITE As a senior majoring in Graphic Design, Kristen Kohashi has always
been interested in communicating and conveying ideas visually, and as a
student leader, loves working with people and in groups. She hopes to
combine these skills and interests with others in this website, blog, and
